What a Life Coach Can Do for you

Jan 10th, 2010 by newmoney

As the New Year begins people all over the world are committing themselves to all sorts of resolutions to lead better lives. Every year millions of people (friends and family of mine included) commit themselves to such things as: quitting smoking, getting in shape, making more money, and spending more time with our family and friends, which are just a few of the resolutions we hear today. While some of us do join the gym, throw away cigarettes, start saving money, how long does it last? A month? Two months? Three, if we’re lucky? When the excitement of the New Year wears off and the old routine and demands of life set in, the same old patterns come back up and we tell ourselves “well maybe next year”, or “promises were made to be broken”. It doesn’t have to be that way this year. There are many people out there, besides personal trainers, whose job it is to ensure that we continue to reach our goals. They are called Life Coaches.

A life coach is someone who works with you to create the goals and outcomes we want for our life. Some areas they work with clients on are: creating a better balance between our personal and professional lives, improving our ability to communicate our ideas and thoughts in public, and developing strategies for us to earn more money.

After attending a self-development seminar by Tony Robbins late last year, I decided to hire my own life coach. You see, for many years I‘d read numerous books on how to be a better person and leader. I watched DVDs and listened to CDs on spirituality and finding the inner wisdom, so that I could find my true purpose. I will admit that a lot of what I read stuck with me and I was happy to share that knowledge; I just found that I didn’t apply much of it consistently. I don’t think I am alone on this. I believe we all want to have a great life with financial security, time with our family and friends, and a career where we’re making a positive difference that provides us with a level of deep satisfaction.

Yet we never have someone committed to working with us to achieve those goals. While you may have family, friends and colleagues interested in seeing live a better life, they aren’t necessarily going to put their time and energy into helping. Why? Because they are just as focused on their goals and outcomes for their life. I can tell you that I have already seen results in two of three outcomes I have set to achieve over the next three months, and it is empowering. The final outcome will be realized within the next two weeks. When I am finished achieving these outcomes I will work with my coach to push my self into new adventures, opportunities and areas of life that will create more passion and zest for life.

A life coach steps in to provide many levels of support; acts as a sounding board, works to create action-oriented techniques, and provides thought provoking questions. Growing in popularity and use all over the world, in 2004, according to MarketData Enterprise, there were 25,000 life coaches in the U.S, and in 2005 the amount of coaches grew to 40,000. Canada, Japan, the U.K, and Australia are also growing markets for coaching.

Some of the most successful athletes, CEOs, musical artists in the world have their own life coaches. These coaches are not counselors, therapists, mentors, or consultants. Counselors and therapists focus on your past, mentors and consultants give you their opinion and how you should proceed and offer solutions. A personal coach will bring the solution out of you, and that is a very empowering tool for clients. The ability to talk out the process that will create the desired result or the optimal solution to the challenge their facing will propel them forward at an exciting rate.

Many people who hire a personal trainer are often the most successful at losing weight, staying in shape and eating healthy. When the commitment is made to pay a personal trainer, show up at a specific time to train, and complete the amount of work they require you do you get results. Why? Well for one thing you have vested financial interest in the sessions. Secondly, you are now accountable to another person; you told them you would show up at a particular time to train and you don’t want to disappoint them. Finally, as strange as this may seem, the vast majority of us will do more for others than we will do for ourselves. So when the trainer tells you that you’re going to do fifteen sit-ups and as you get to the fifteenth they tell you, “ok now ten more”, and you push yourself. If you were training alone you would have stopped at ten. Make sense? Now is the time to hire a life coach to push you to your “10” in life, and then help create a “15” to reach for. The Importance Of Life Coaching Products

Jan 4th, 2010 by newmoney

Anyone who wants to become successful in having lasting relationships, mastering their finances, getting healthy and fit, etc. will need a coach or a mentor in order to do so. Most people even need several coaches.
How do you think pro athletes would fare if they didn’t have a coach to keep them in line and organize their abilities so they functioned best as a team? Your life and anyone else’s is no different. While you are probably not a pro athlete, you are a professional when it comes to your job or business.
Therefore if you want to excel to your top ability you need a life coach to help you get and stay there. Otherwise you will wallow in mediocrity like the majority of people.
As far as I know you are given one life. When you are on your deathbed do you want to look back at a life that was so wonderful that it brings tears to your eyes? Or do you want to wonder what your true potential could have been?
The Different Kinds Of Life Coaching
While one on one coaching with is highly recommended, many people don’t go down this route for one reason or another. They may not be able to afford to use individual services, for example.
Fortunately there is a wide range of life coaching products that can be more easily fitted into a normal lifestyle, and indeed many of them are designed for this purpose. Life coaching CDs are extremely popular as they can be listened to at any time.
How many hours a day is your mind free to expand and improve? Instead of listening to music on the way to work or watching television when you get home listen to self-help programs instead.
For example, if you want to become strong and fit you need to strengthen your muscles by working out. Your mind is no different. If you want your mind to function at top capacity you must do a workout for the mind. This is exactly what life coaching products do.
If you prefer to read about life coaching then there are several excellent books on the subject which you can buy. Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, and Dale Carnegie are three excellent life coaches that come to mind. Life coaching products are available either online directly from the life coach’s website, or in your local bookshops.
Try looking on Amazon to see which titles come up as the most popular in that range; you will sometimes be able to get a discount for buying more than one title at the same time.
If you want to become more than you are today and maximize your true potential you need someone who has done it to lead you down that path. Trying to get there all by yourself will be exhausting.
Life is hard enough, don’t make it harder by trying to do everything yourself. Get a mentor, get motivated, and focus on improving areas of your life that need it.
Don’t try to tell yourself that you are perfect. Everyone has areas of their life that need improvement. Good luck on your journey towards success, health, and true happiness! Brue M. Self Help To Leadership – The Ladder To Power

Dec 23rd, 2009 by newmoney

Self help to leadership basically focuses on creating personal leadership skills such that in any endeavor, they take command, stand for ideals, guide others and make strong decisions. This challenging skill separates them from others, and the greatest leaders were not born leaders, they became over a phase of time by slowly toughening up to criticism, resolving opposition and grew in strength by learning to rise, by standing firmly even in most difficult situations. However, people who desire to be leaders or who are keen to nurture leadership qualities can strengthen their skills and encourage to promote their aims.Self help to leadership is a ladder to accomplish power that is expected to be started in the early stages of life so that a person is capable to taking responsibility. It is a must that anything started should be completed and any work done should be the best. This thought prepares even young children to gain incredible satisfaction on getting things done right. Self help to leadership can be initiated with young people joining clubs and student councils, while adults can get enrolled with some community club or church or some other business networking group. Initially, occupying a low power position and later gaining experience to responsible positions is the right entry level for aspirant leaders.Volunteering work such as providing assistance to people in need, fund raising, performing specific services, etc teaches being and handling the authority role of leadership. Volunteers normally have less pressure and it is the best to understand self help to leadership. Initiate and take up new challenges with confidence as holding a leadership position in a small team gives an opportunity to widen to new ability levels, organize and study problems and to take a responsible part. Being responsible is one of the focused self help to leadership that allows you to concentrate and complete.Self help to leadership is a ladder to claim power, but this needs honing speaking skills, writing and presentation style as well. These are the valuable skills that offer a realistic evaluation of leadership style and maintaining calm, even if there is lot of turmoil going inside, is one of the unbeatable talents that need to be honed. Self help to leadership need not necessarily begin from a working place or associations; it can slowly start with your group of friends as well. Look for a right opportunity and kindle a special interest or even a common interest and keep making agendas, minutes, update regularly, make simple alterations, offer ideas and guidelines, and slowly this will become professional.Staying active most of the times is a great quality and develop a good listening skill, besides reading extensively about leaders, business magnets, politicians and many more famous people will give you guidance and inspiration. Unknowingly, you will realize that all excellent leaders of yester years as well have faced typical problems of yours, but knowing their style of handling the situations will be of great help.Meet people from different backgrounds as it boosts your confidence level and offers valuable experience. Observing and studying others and handling adverse reactions without any harsh expression on the face are certain qualities that is tough to be developed, but is essential as self help to leadership. Reading self help books for leadership is of immense use as it throws light on various leadership elements, and some of the notable books are handling criticism, negotiating, emotional intelligence, asking questions, inspiring others, and more. Self-help Secrets Revealed – Part 1

Dec 14th, 2009 by newmoney

What is this Ebook about?  How to help yourself in your Growth Journey and bring to yourself all the best resources you can muster to achieve your goals. What Information do you need?   You need to understand basic self-help categories. ·       Do you have problems to solve (e.g. anxiety, depression, low self-esteem)? ·       Do you have goals you wish to achieve (e.g. confidence, career success, and wealth creation)? Probably you will be dealing with both.  That’s the story for most of us.  If you have Problems to Solve, these will inevitably affect Goals to Achieve. Conversely, if you have Goals you want to Achieve, you will likely uncover Problems that need Solving along the way. In either case, dealing with one will positively affect the other. Commit yourself to becoming the Best Person you can while having fun and enjoying your Life. These are the Fundamentals to creating a Healthy Positive Attitude. It doesn’t matter where you begin, as long as you have a goal. A self-improvement goal is easy to state, as we did above. Committing yourself to becoming the Best Person you can could be considered an Umbrella Goal. Under this Umbrella Goal there will be many sub goals. For example: ·       Dealing with Anxiety ·       Building Self-Esteem ·       Going back to school ·       Building or remodeling your home ·       Establishing Career Success ·       Finding a partner ·       Creating Wealth and Abundance in Your Life  Each of these sub goals will have needs of their own. For example: Would increased Self-Esteem help in any of the above goals?  Of course it would.  Would reducing anxiety levels help in the above goals? Of course it would.  Would “Thinking More Positively” help in the above goals? Absolutely! See how we move from the umbrella goal to sub goals belonging to Problems to be Solved or Categories of Achievement. These stepping stone goals, which are part of everyone’s process, are interrelated. Have a problem with Anxiety?  Then, you have a problem with Self-Esteem or Creating Wealth or Achieving Success. Benefits of this Ebook ·       Presents shortcuts to understanding yourself and problems to be solved. ·       Helps to quickly identify your Umbrella Goal and any Sub Goals for problem solving and achievement. ·       Helps you discover how to Manage your Anxiety. ·       Learn how to grow Self-Esteem. ·       Develop and establish Positive Thinking Habits. ·       Make the most of your Talents and Past Successes. ·       Find Strength and Courage in a history of Abuse or Neglect. ·       Learn how to re-parent yourself as you deserved as a child. ·       Turn any failure into a success by extracting its beneficial lessons and noting the strengths you developed.   Learn to understand yourself better by identifying various adaptive patterns.  -        Did you become an Overachiever? -        Are you excessively controlling, of yourself and others? -        Did you become an underachiever? -        Did you learn to rely on drugs, alcohol or medications? -        Are you holding yourself back from Creativity and Success? -        Did you “decide” that “you have no needs?” -        Did you become Passive-Aggressive? -        Do you have problems identifying and expressing your emotions? -        Are you plagued by depression, anxiety and self-doubt? A Human Being’s Basic Bill of Rights: ·       You have the right to have your needs met. ·       You have needs that deserve your attention. ·       You have Value, just as you are right now. ·       You deserve to be loved and appreciated. ·       Apologizing has redeeming value. ·       You do not need to be perfect. ·       You are not perfect. No one is. ·       Healthy Self-Esteem is necessary fuel for Life. ·       Self-Improvement can be fun. ·       Your past is “what happened” to you, not “who you are”. ·       Your survival and adaptive strategies are also about “what happened to you”, and not “who you are”. ·       Survival patterns and adaptive strategies can be changed. ·       You have the right “to improve your life” in whatever manner you prefer. ·       Harming others will never advance your goal to improve yourself or your life circumstances. ·       Positive self-esteem, joy, happiness, love, regret, loss, hurt, pain, success, failure and so on, are all part of life’s experience.   Your Goal: Your goal is to get where you want to be in terms of problems solved and achievement goals realized. This makes use of The Power of Intention and The Law of Attraction.  What you focus on will come to you. It would be a good idea to for you to STOP focusing on anything negative Right Now! For Example: I want to live my life in the fullest and healthiest way possible by growing self-esteem, reducing anxiety levels and building confidence within one year. I want to grow my net worth by …..% within 2 years. I want a Strong and Healthy Relationship in my life by the end of this year. . .   You want to achieve your Goals as safely and efficiently as possible. The Road:   This road ill be paved with  Success, Failure, Strength, Defeat, Leaps Forward, Retreats, Heroic Days, Down Time, Friends, Foes – All part of the Process. Ask Yourself This: Can I still love myself after . . . . . . .  (fill in your greatest shame or perceived failure)? The Ideal Human Being:  He or She is not perfect.  He or she has Great Tools which they use to achieve their goals and grow in their best direction. Self-Help Resources are Tools:   You adapt these tools to your needs and goals. Experiment first, then use the ones that work best for you!   You will get to your goals with the right resources. The Truth Why so Many People Fail With Self-help Programs

Dec 13th, 2009 by newmoney

There are thousands of self-help or life improvement programs for sale everyday world wide, so why is it that of those that are sold, 99% of the purchasers will not achieve their hopes and dreams.
There is an ever growing belief that these self-help programs are not the instant fix to riches and happines. That some how just by reading these manuscripts can change our whole outlook on life and eliminate the excuses we all make for not making the changes we need to make.
This article will investigate probably the most plausible cause why so many people fail with these programs.
First and foremost you must understand you are in charge of your life, you always have been and always will be.
This is quite a daunting thought for most people,in fact over 90% of people play the blame game, its easier to blame people, places and things than take full responsibility for our actions.
You can see this in so many lives, how many times have we heard, “it wasn’t me guv it was him”.
Or we find it’s easier to blame the boss or work colleagues when we are not progressing in the work place. How often have we blamed our partners for holding us back? How often is it the government or authorities fault, we can always say we are too young or too old. It seems there is no end to the excuses we can find.
The best excuse for not achieving must be “It’s not my fault I can’t get anywhere, I am like I am because of the conditioning of my childhood, and it was my fathers/mothers fault”.
Yes, you may have been conditioned to accept a certain lifestyle and to accept a certain standard of living but this doesn’t mean you cannot change it.
When you can honestly stand and raise your hand up, take full responsibility for your actions, and accept everything in your past, your success and your failures, and know these are down to you, then and only then it is at that time you can say you are half way to becoming as successful as you want to be.
If you know deep down there is more to life, and you are prepared to be one of the small minority that take full control and responsibility for their actions good or bad, then these self-help programs will help you get into action so you can achieve wealth, health and happiness.
If you can just stop for one minute and look at the most important word in the last sentence, no not wealth nor is it health or happiness the most important word in the last sentence is actually the corner stone of any self-help program and the key to your new life and success the word is ACTION.
It is so important I will say it again ACTION… and that is the bottom line. Self-help programs cannot work if we don’t take ACTION, and if you want to know the real truth here it is.
The truth is this, only about 3% of people (maybe less), that read through a self-help or life improvement program will take the action to actually change their thinking and so give them the success they desire.
10% will read through the program make a plan but fail to continue to apply it to their everyday living. The rest may not even finish reading the book.
So when you are buying any self-help or improvement program always remember, You are in charge, don’t make excuses and you must take action for it to work. Barry Share is the Founder and editorial director of http://newlifestylepro.com

Why Don’t I Feel Better? The Truth About Positive Affirmations and Self-Help Books

Dec 11th, 2009 by newmoney

“I am successful,” “I am a wonderful person,” “I will find love again,” and many other similar phrases that students, the broken-hearted and unfulfilled employees may repeat to themselves over and over again, hoping to change their lives. Self-help books through the ages, from Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking all the way to the latest, The Secret, have encouraged people with low self-esteem to make positive self-statements or affirmations. New research suggests it may do more harm than good to many people. Canadian researcher, Dr. Joanne Wood at the University of Waterloo and her colleagues at the University of New Brunswick who have recently published their research in the Journal of Psychological Science, concluded “repeating positive self-statements may benefit certain people, such as individuals with high self-esteem, but backfire for the very people who need them the most.” The researchers asked people with and low self-esteem to say “I am a lovable person.” They then measured the participants’ moods and their feelings about themselves. The low-esteem group felt worse afterwards compared with others who did not. However, people with high self-esteem felt better after repeating the positive affirmation–but only slightly. The psychologists then asked the participants to list negative and positive thoughts about themselves. They found, paradoxically, those with low self-esteem were in a better mood when they were allowed to have negative thoughts than when they were asked to focus exclusively on affirmative thoughts. The researchers suggest that, like overly positive praise, unreasonably positive self-statements, such as “I accept myself completely” can provoke contradictory thoughts in individuals in individuals with low self-esteem. When positive self-statements strong conflict with self-perception, the researchers argue, there is not mere resistance but a reinforcing of self-perception. People who view themselves as unlovable, for example, find that saying that are so unbelievable that it strengthens their own negative view rather than reversing it. These findings were supported by previous research published in 1994 in the Journal of Social Psychology, showing that when people get feedback that they believe is overly positive, they actually feel worse, not better. Dr. Wood goes even further. In her Psychology Today blog, she says that most self-help books advocating positive affirmations may be based on good intentions or personal experience, but they are rarely based on even one iota of scientific evidence. She cites psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky’s The How of Happiness as an exception. Does that mean positive affirmations are of absolutely no value. Not according to Dr. Wood and her co-researchers. They say they positive affirmations can help when they are part of a broader program of intervention. That intervention can take place in a number of forms such as cognitive psychotherapy or working with a coach who has expertise in the behavioral sciences. What kind of intervention is best to use to make positive affirmations most effective? That’s where we encounter even more controversy. Traditional cognitive psychotherapy may not be the best intervention according to Dr. Steven Hayes, a renowned psychotherapist, and author of Getting Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life. Hayes has been setting the world of psychotherapy on its ear by advocating a totally different approach. In an article in Time magazine, John Cloud describes Hayes’ work. Hayes and researchers Marsha Linehan and Robert Kohlenberg at the University of Washington, and Zindel Segal at the University of Toronto, what we could call “Third Wave Psychologists” are focusing less on how to manipulate the content of our thoughts (a focus on cognitive psychotherapy) and more on how to change their context–to modify the way we see thoughts and feelings so they can’t control our behavior. Whereas cognitive therapists speak of “cognitive errors” and “distorted interpretation,” Hayes and his colleagues encourage mindfulness, the meditation-inspired practice of observing thoughts without getting entangled by them–imagine the thoughts being a leaf or canoe floating down the stream. These Third Wave Psychologists would argue that trying to correct negative thoughts can paradoxically actually intensify them. As NLP trained coaches would say, telling someone to “not think about a blue tree,” actually focuses their mind on a blue tree. The Third Wave Psychologists methodology is called ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which says that we should acknowledge that negative thoughts recur throughout our life and instead of challenging or fighting with them, we should concentrate on identifying and committing to our values in life. Hayes would argue that once we are willing to feel our negative emotions, we’ll find it easier to commit ourselves to what we want in life. This approach may come as a surprise to many, because the traditional cognitive model permeates our culture and the media as reflected in the Dr. Phil show. The essence of the conflict between traditional cognitive psychologists and psychotherapists is to engage in a process of analyzing your way out your problems, or the Third Wave approach which says, accept that you have negative beliefs, thinking and problems and focus on what you want. Third Wave psychologists acknowledge that we have pain, but rather than trying to push it away, they say trying to push it away or deny it just gives it more energy and strength. Third Wave Psychologists focus on acceptance and commitment comes with a variety of strategies to help people including such things as writing your epitaph (what’s going to be your legacy), clarifying your values and committing your behavior to them. It’s interesting that that The Third Wave Psychologists approach comes along at a time when more and more people are looking for answer outside of the traditional medical model (which psychiatry and traditional psychotherapy represent). Just look at a 2002 study in Prevention and Treatment, which found that 80% people tested who took the six most popular antidepressants of the 1990’s got the same results when they took a sugar pill placebo. The Third Wave Psychologists approaches are very consistent with much of the training and approach that many life coaches receive, inclusive of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and many spiritual approaches to behavioral changes reflected in ancient Buddhist teachings and the more modern version exemplified by Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now). The focus of those approaches reinforces the concepts of acceptance of negative emotions and thoughts, and rather than giving them energy and fighting with them, focus on mindfulness, and a commitment to an alignment of values and behavior. So what can we learn from all this? Two things–first, just engaging in positive affirmations by themselves, can do harm to people with low self-esteem, and provide only little benefit for those with high-esteem, if those affirmations are not part of a comprehensive program of self-growth, preferably with a knowledgeable professional; and second, the traditional cognitive psychotherapeutic approach at trying to change people’s negative thinking through logical processes may actually be counterproductive, compared to an approach that has people accept their thoughts, not resist them and give more energy to them by thinking about them, but rather engage in positive behaviors and thinking. On the next post, I’ll be interviewing Stephanie Frank, President of Success IQ University, a Master NLP Coach and Certified Hypnotherapist, who has worked with hundreds of individuals practicing the concepts and ideas in this blog, and achieved huge success with her clients. She’ll tell us how.   Ray Williams is Co-Founder of Success IQ University and President of Ray Williams Associates, companies based in Phoenix and Vancouver, providing leadership development, personal growth and executive coaching services and products.Free WP Plugins

Self-Help On Anxiety – How To Take Control Of It

Dec 3rd, 2009 by newmoney

An anxiety or panic attack can be one of the most debilitating things to happen to someone as at that moment, nothing seems what it actually is and there is only an overwhelming fear of some imagined impending danger. This attack is more serious than it sounds as it totally overpowers the reasoning powers of the person and physically too, the chest feels constricted and the breath comes in short gasps. It is quite normal for someone to experience an anxiety attack once in a blue moon but if it starts happening on a regular basis it is time to pay attention. People suffering from anxiety attacks get so apprehensive of getting one in public that they may stop leaving home entirely. This can have vast adverse repercussions on the psyche of the person ultimately. Remember, that no one can get within you and help you get rid of the anxiety attack. At the best, you can be advised, cajoled, coaxed, etc. and etc., but in the end it is you only who can take charge of your feelings. You have to do it yourself or take the help of medications. Self-help on anxiety is a fine way to start out when the desire to help yourself is strong and something be done about the problem. One of the main techniques of self-help on anxiety is learning how to relax. Try not to be tense or stressed out all the time. Practicing taking deep breaths during periods of stress will help you calm down and see things in the proper perspective. Regular practice will soon make deep breathing a habit and will come in useful during an actual attack. Any form of regular physical exercise is excellent for tackling this problem as exercise releases the feel-good hormones called endorphins which put us in a relaxed mood. Physical exercise helps to release pent-up energy and nervousness which is responsible for anxiety attacks to a large extent. Yoga and meditation are excellent forms of self-help for calming oneself down. Identifying what sets off your panic attack will help you control them better. It is only when you know in what situations or by what people these attacks are set off will you get a better grip on them. Many people feel claustrophobic in large, crowded areas and hemmed within large crowds gives rise to a panic attack in them. Staying away from places which act as a trigger for such attacks can be beneficial. Movie halls, amusement parks, shopping malls are all public places which can get uncomfortably crowded during peak hours and one of the best way to avoid the crowd is to go there very early or later in the evening when the crowd is sure to have thinned out. This way you will have your panic under control yet not deprive yourself of any enjoyment. If there is a particular time of the day when you feel most likely to panic, avoid being alone during such times. Have a friend or family member with you till the time you learn how to control these feelings. Occupying yourself in a favorite hobby or helping someone else will keep you distracted and take your mind off that particular time. Very soon, unobtrusively this will become a habit and your panic attacks will hopefully disappear or at least lessen. Breaking up the things which you have to do into small, manageable goals will lessen the enormity of doing everything together and consequently, reduce the anxiety factor. Learning what triggers off your anxiety attacks is half the battle won as you can then start taking steps to tackle that problem. Stop Reading Self-Help Books!

Dec 3rd, 2009 by newmoney

Copyright (c) 2009 Willie Horton I am forever being contacted by clients recommending a variety of self-help books. And, yet, a client recently mentioned to me that he had been on a workshop where another participant told him to “Stop reading the books – and start living it!” The truth is, that you will only find true wisdom within. You will only find your true potential within. You don’t have to read others’ experiences or exhortations – you have to, at some point, sooner or later, start walking the talk – you’ve got to do it for yourself. Many – or most – of the self-help books available on the market talk about our inner power, our innate ability to unleash the “giant within”. However, continually reading books will not do it for you – books contain other people’s wisdom, other people’s experience, other people’s journeys. You’ve got to take your own journey. And that journey starts in this very moment – it doesn’t start with a New Year’s Resolution, with some future commitment. In this very moment, you have, entirely within your own power, the ability to start truly living – way beyond what so-called “normal” people take for living. You see, “normal” people don’t live – they exist in a pseudo-world of automatic reactive behaviour, based on what they internalised when they were young and impressionable. In our formative years, we “learned” how the world works, what was possible and impossible, who we are and what our place is in this world of ours. Research indicates that little (or nothing) of what we learned approximates to the truth of what you and I can really achieve. Research indicates that we were socialised or normalised, that we live to a set of norms that confine us into an existence which sells us far short of all that we could actually and otherwise be. The same research indicates that those who follow the norms are predisposed to being negative, believing the negative and mindlessly accepting that life is the way the vast majority of people believe it to be – a struggle, where you have to work hard to be a success, where nothing comes easily, where you live and die on the same set of rails that have been previously travelled by all the other normal people. Of course, if you buy into that nonsense, that is how your life will turn out – because we all create, through our subconscious beliefs, our very own self-fulfilling prophecies. Time to wake up from the nightmare! Time to realise that you have, within your very own self, the innate ability to be all that you can be. Time to realise that you can create the life that you really, really want because, in the day to day of your current everyday life, you are already creating the life that you expect – it’s just that normal people live down to their expectations. Decades of research prove conclusively that we experience what we expect to experience, that we perceive what we expect to perceive, that we live the lives we expect to live. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by normality and find it hard to break free. Sure, we might like to read about it, might like to dream about it, but most people will die without having realized their wildest dreams, without having realized what normal people perceive as unrealistic ambitions. These dreams are only wild or unrealistic because they don’t conform to the norms expected of normal people. These dreams and ambitions are yours for the living if you start using your mind abnormally – the way extraordinarily successful people use their minds. The only difference between you and people like Bill Gates, Muhammad Ali, Donald Trump, Mahatma Gandhi and all the rest is that those guys refused to accept the norm. You can turn your back on the drudgery of normal too by changing your state of mind. Normal people’s minds are in an awful state – one bombarded by 50,000 random thoughts each day, one where their subconscious constantly focused on what was learned during their formative years – a past long gone. As I said earlier, now is the moment in which you can change everything. Now is the moment in which you can start living exceptionally. There’s no time like the present. Indeed, now is the only time and place you or I have – doesn’t it make sense that we make the very most we can of the here and now. This is done by turning your mind’s attention away from the nonsense that is pulling the normal world over your eyes. This is done by developing – or re-developing, because we could all do it as children, before we became normal adults – your innate, natural ability to invest your precious energy in the present moment. If you invest your energy in now, you will be more present than the normal person. You will have what normal people call “presence” – the kind of presence and influence that the people I mentioned earlier on have exercised in their lives. You invest your energy in the present by paying more attention to the here and now. You are blessed in that you have, at your disposal, five senses with which you can actively engage to experience the wonder of what is going on now – not what normal people think is going on – but what is actually happening. You might just find that, in doing so, you’ll find that all the opportunities you need to achieve effortless success are before your very eyes. Open them. Dec 3rd, 2009 by newmoney

You are in a crowded store with a basket full of shopping. Suddenly you become aware of a slight dizzy feeling and your heart starts beating a bit harder and faster. You realise you are sweating slightly and your breathing has become a bit faster. There is a knot in your stomach and a strong feeling that lots of other shoppers are looking at you. Your heart gets even faster and the breathing does too until you feel lightheaded. It feels like the walls are closing in and you really have to get out of there fast. Sound familiar? If so it may be that you have had panic attacks. When panic attacks become frequent and the worry or anxiety of about having them starts to interfere with normal life, then you may have panic disorder. Here are three trusted methods of self help for panic disorder. *Avoid caffeine and smoking Caffeine, which is found in coffee, tea, cola drinks and dark chocolate, among other things, is a stimulant, as is nicotine. They can interfere with the brain’s natural tranquilizers and cause insomnia, and can also makes the heart beat faster. As increased heart rate and palpitations are symptoms of a panic attack, it is easy to see that avoidance of these products could be a very simple but effective form of self help for panic disorders. *Breathing exercises During a panic attack the breathing becomes fast and shallow, and this is called hyperventilation. This leads to some of the other symptoms that are experienced such as tingling and lightheadedness. If you can teach yourself deep breathing and try to force yourself to do it during an attack, it will reduce the severity of the panic attack. Breathing into a paper bag can help too (yes, really!) *Relaxation techniques Meditation and yoga help the sufferer to envisage stressful situations in the mind’s eye under controlled conditions and imagine a relaxed and happy outcome. Neuro-linguistic Programming (nlp) – Change Your World! Self-help for Fibromyalgia & Other Chronic Pain Sufferers

Dec 2nd, 2009 by newmoney

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) may help Fibromyalgia symptoms. It is a self-help approach that assists patients in understanding the way we think and feel. It is said that NLP can be a helpful fibromyalgia treatment by helping the sufferer find freedom from underlying emotional issues that contribute to chronic pain and other symptoms.  NLP is described as “the study of the structure of subjective experience”. “Neuro” refers to how the brain works.  “Linguistic” is defined as how language interacts with the brain.  The word “Programming” describes how we use this interaction to get the results we want for ourselves and others.  NLP a blend of cognitive and behavioral science. It is said that NLP can be used to help people with quitting smoking, weight loss, performance, confidence, anxiety, anger management, stress relief, chronic pain, addiction, phobias, negative self-perception, insomnia and depression. The basic principle of NLP is that the words we use reflect our inner, subconscious perception of our problems. If we allow our negative perceptions and words to fester, the underlying problem will continue.  These negative words and attitudes can actually become who we are – even if they are inaccurate.  Reality is processed by our five senses and nervous system which translates into experience. Our experience is then given meaning by language and non-verbal communication. Looking at premise behind NLP, that language and non-verbal communication gives meaning to our experience, it does make sense that if we are made aware of our own negative communication patterns, experience can be modified into more positive ways of thinking and communicating. Neuro-Linguistic Programming is designed to change unwanted behaviors and beliefs, to help us achieve personal acceptance and improve our lives.  NLP systematically explores, illustrates, and teaches patterns of human perception and information processing, behavior, and communication.  The goal is to help eliminate the things that block your abilities to function and strengthen those that help you achieve excellence and overall wellness.Language & words have a powerful effect on altering perceptions. It is suggested that NLP offers a flexible approach which brings about positive, fast change in individuals, empowering them to adapt to an ever-shifting inner world.  NLP shows us how to understand and model our own successes in a realistic way, so that we can reproduce them. NLP experts say that positive self-talk is a must, no negatives.  You do get what you focus on, so focus on what you want.  Basically, its an attitude adjustment. NLP is new to me and maybe to you as well.  I have not experienced this therapy myself, but I feel it is important to present it as an option for FM and chronic pain.  Since we are all so different when it comes to our pain perception, severity and emotional status, what might work for some, may not work for others.  Discuss NLP with your healthcare provider to decide if NLP is worth a try.           Erica Thompson is a 40-year-old, Stay-at-Home mom with 3 children and a husband in the military.
